If you are using iPhoto or Aperture for your pics and have tagged faces, places or events on them, you will see this bar (above) in your iPhone photo app once you sync those pics. The iOS4 on its own is not capable of tagging events and faces, although if you turn on the Location Services, it can tag places for you.
So for example, if you click on Places, you can see photos that have been taken at different locations pinned on a Google map. To see more specific locations, just double tap on the map to zoom in. If you tap once on the red pin, you will see a thumbnail with a total number of photo collection taken in that location. Clicking on the blue arrow will bring you to a gallery of that collection.

When you choose to email a picture from your photo app gallery, it now has option to resize your image before emailing. So, go ahead and choose the best size for you.
