New feature in iOS4 - digital zoom and tap to focus video

Your iPhone camera can now zoom digitally with iOS4. Of course for those who couldn't wait for this upgrade would've gotten themselves a camera app with zoom. Anyway, here's how you do it on iOS4 using the default camera app:

   1. Launch the Apple's default camera app
   2. Tap on the area on the picture that you wish to focus
   3. The zoom slider will appear almost the same time as the focus cross-hair box (light blue)
   4. Slide to zoom

Here are some sample shots taken with full zoom and without:

From the above comparison, the zoom works quite ok for flat text but not so well for 3D objects. It's probably optimized to work with the upcoming iPhone 4.0 5MP camera with LED flash. I did notice an improvement in speed when taking photos.

Another new camera feature allows you to just tap on anywhere to focus the camera during video recording mode.

Do you find this digital zoom feature by Apple to be better than other third-party camera app?
